It would be acceptable to explain that an irrational exponent would not be covered in class and is beyond the grade level.Further, should the student discover that the information provided was not correct, it can lead to questions of trust in the quality of the education and the teacher. Additionally, this can impede progress as additional time will be spent to unlearn and correct misinformation which may have become ingrained as gospel. We also relate the fact that division by zero is undefined to the fact that the slope of a vertical line is undefined.<br />Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-541622610950430669.post-79453018292355835592013-02-20T07:31:23.332-05:002013-02-20T07:31:23.332-05:00I don't teach math but I have had color-challe...I don't teach math but I have had color-challenged students. I remember one quite a few years ago and I switched to using blue and a very bright pink (which he told me was fine on his papers). I try not to use red but I also assume that if students have trouble with this, they will tell me. An erroneous assumption, most likely. Some students share too much and others not enough. Some of our traditional measures of the success of our programs may not be appropriate. Comparison with other programs is obviously one technique, another would be to track students after they leave an online course and see how successfully they integrate the knowledge learned from the course into their future lives.Davidhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08098221991466148258noreply@blogger.com
